Restraining Order Petitions

Walk-in Legal Services at SRFJC

Our attorneys are available Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM – noon and 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM to assist with restraining order applications for victims of domestic violence and elder abuse. All of our services are free. No appointments necessary.  First come, first served.

What you need to know:

  • Victims meet with attorneys or legal interns and receive individualized assistance.
  • The entire process to complete the paper work and file can take anywhere from two to seven hours.
  • Interpreting services are available if needed.
  • Petitions that are completed and filed before 2:00 PM will receive a response by the court at 3:45 PM that same day.
  • Petitions completed and filed after 2:00 PM, will receive a response at 3:45 PM the following day.
  • Attorneys are available to respond to questions between 3:45 – 4:30 PM each afternoon at the SRFJC legal clinic, following the Court’s response.

Online Self Help Services

Victims who want to try to complete their Restraining Order petitions on their own can try using a free online program published by the Judicial Council of California. The program will guide the victim to complete all of the necessary forms of their petition which the victim can then print out and file in person with the Sacramento County Family Relations Courthouse.
